Letter Classification : Skipping of Letters: In this type of classification, a group of jumbled letters, typically consisting of group in which two or three or four letters are put together and we have to find the odd group. To solve these questions we need to assign them positions as per the alphabetical order. The pattern or order in which the elements have been skipped is identified. They we will identify the group which does not follow the same pattern.
Illustration: Choose the odd one out from the group : BD, JL, PS, TV
(1) BD (2) JL (3) PS (4) TV
Answer : (3)
Solution When we analyse the group we see that
In BD, B is at position 2 and D is at position 4 so one letter has been skipped
In JL, J is at position 10 and L is at position 12 so one letter has been skipped
In PS, P is at position 16 and S is at position 19 so two letters has been skipped
In TV, T is at position 20 and V is at position 22 so one letter has been skipped.
Only group (c) does not satisfy the rule. Hence is the odd one.
Illustration:Choose the odd one out of the group: SUWYA, LJNPR, KMOQS, BDFHJ, ACEGI
(a) SUWYA (b) LJNPR (c) KMOQS (d) BDFHJ (e) ACEGI
Answer: (b)
Solution: When we analyse the group we see that
In SUWYA one alphabet has been skipped that is after S T has been skipped then after U V has been skipped and so on.
In LJNPR no such pattern is found
In KMOQS one alphabet has been skipped that is after K L has been skipped then after M N has been skipped and so on.
In BDFHJ one alphabet has been skipped that is after B C has been skipped then after D F has been skipped and so on.
In ACEGI one alphabet has been skipped that is after A B has been skipped then after C D has been skipped and so on.
So group (b) is the odd group as it does not follow the same pattern as the other groups All other groups contain alternate letters of the alphabet in order.
